Program Details
Mayer Consulting works with defense attorneys on serious criminal cases. Interns work alongside our team and see how a defense case actually gets built. Whether you’re attending undergraduate, graduate school, or recently graduated, this is an opportunity to look at a case from the investigator’s side. The work is hands-on enough to prepare you for a career in criminal justice.
Experience Gained
Depending on current case needs, interns may assist with reviewing records and discovery, conducting research, developing timelines, organizing evidence, preparing for interviews, and identifying information that helps tell a client’s story. Interns also strengthen their critical thinking, professional communication, attention to detail, and understanding of how investigators, mitigation specialists, and defense attorneys work together.
Length
Internship length and weekly hours vary based on the academic semester, school requirements, and the needs of each student. Scheduling is arranged individually to support academic-credit requirements when applicable. Strong interns may also be considered for future employment opportunities.
Fields of Study
Social work · Law · Pre-law · Political science · Psychology · Criminal Justice · Related Fields
Location
Internships may be completed in person, remotely, or through a hybrid arrangement, depending on the student’s location and the needs of current cases. In-person work may include field investigation, jail and courthouse visits, witness interviews, and collaboration with our team. Remote interns focus on case research, records review, timelines, and other case-development projects. Hybrid placements combine both experiences. Because casework is confidential and schedules can change, each placement is structured individually.
Includes Private Investigator Licensing
When an intern’s role requires private investigator licensing, Mayer Consulting can provide the necessary training and support and will sponsor eligible individuals through the licensing process. Licensing needs are evaluated based on each placement, assigned responsibilities, and potential employment opportunities. Mayer Consulting also offers continuing education courses approved by the State of Texas for professionals seeking to maintain or expand their investigative knowledge and credentials.
Details
Licensing remains active for the duration of the internship or employment with Mayer Consulting, subject to applicable state requirements.
